How much had your job as a neurologist influenced the development of the characters of The Housemaid?
Not at all. Of my titles, many have been very influenced by my specialty work in brain injury, and others just by my experiences as a physician. But The Housemaid is actually one of the few titles where I didn’t use my medical background at all in writing it!
Quanto ha influito il suo lavoro di neurologa con lo sviluppo dei personaggi di The Housemaid?
Per nulla. Molti miei romanzi sono stati influenzati dal mio lavoro, dalla mia specializzazione in lesioni cerebrali, altri solo dalle mie esperienze come medico. Ma The Housemaid è in realtà uno dei pochi romanzi per i quali non ho attinto affatto alle mie competenze mediche!
Although this is a thriller, especially in the beautiful and not predictable final, there is a very important social message. Was it decided by you or by your characters?
I feel like this book has girl power theme, which is one of my very favorite themes in books. I love books where women kick butt in the end! You’ll see that a lot in my books.
Questo libro è incentrato sul tema del potere femminile, che è uno dei miei temi preferiti, lo troverai molto spesso nei miei libri. Adoro i romanzi in cui le donne alla fine prendono a calci nel sedere ie sopraffazioni!
This is your debut in Italy, is there any hope for your other novels to be translated for italian market as well?
Absolutely! The publisher of The Housemaid, Newton Compton, has also acquired rights for the sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, as well as one of my other titles, Never Lie.
Per quanto sia un thriller, soprattutto nella parte finale, bellissima e non scontata, c’è un messaggio sociale molto importante. È stato deciso da lei o dai suoi personaggi?
Assolutamente! L’editore di The Housemaid, Newton Compton, ha anche acquisito i diritti per il sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, così come uno degli altri miei titoli, Never Lie.
In your future projects, will you still focus on thrillers or do you have other genres to explore in the drawer?
I’ve actually already written three women’s fiction novels. I would certainly return to that genre if the inspiration strikes me!
Questo è il suo esordio in Italia, ci sono speranze di vedere tradotti anche gli altri romanzi qui da noi?
In realtà ho già scritto tre romanzi di narrativa che raccontano le donne. Ritornerò sicuramente al thriller, non appena mi arriva l’ispirazione!
